This week I want to introduce you to the image optimization service Imagify, from the folks at WP Media who also make WP Rocket. It is a service that handles compressing, resizing and optimizing images for your site without losing quality and integrates with WordPress via a plugin.
Compressing images makes them smaller in size and therefore your site will take less time to load. Speed is a great quality to have, which helps for things like SEO and user experience. Find out more about image compression.
If you have a site with lots of existing images, the Imagify plugin has a handy bulk optimize feature to take care of them. The plugin also handles resizing images, responsive and retina images. Find out more.
The service is actually CMS agnostic, and although it works great with WordPress, they are building integration to other popular systems and allow you to build integration to you custom project through an API.
WooCommerce is probably the biggest ecommerce plugin around for WordPress and this week I want to introduce you to a WooCommerce theme that makes want to set up my own online shop to sell stuff, just to use it! Shophistic from Quema Labs is a clean and stylish store theme that would work well for any shop.
It is responsive which is a must these days and comes with a ‘mega’ menu for easy navigation of categories from the main menu.
Take a look at the full features and have a play with the demo.
Have you heard of Smart Slider 3? It’s the slider plugin from the guys over at Nextend that makes creating responsive and beautiful sliders and content blocks so easy.
The plugin comes with a powerful feature set and they’ve put lots of effort into the UI for the visual editor, not to mention the plugin’s website!
I recommend taking a look at the introduction video which gives a good feel for the plugin. I think this full size template is one of my favourite presets for the slider.
As time goes on more and more of our time spent on the internet is via a mobile device. Whilst responsive websites are great, native apps for iOS and Android are where it’s at. Enter AppPresser, the world’s first mobile app development framework for WordPress. AppPresser turns your WordPress website into a native app that you can release to the app stores.
I had heard about AppPresser a while back, but it was only when I started to really dig into its videos and features that I was completely blown away by what it allows you to do. You can use plugins that integrate with AppPresser to leverage native mobile functionality like the device’s camera, contacts and even the accelerometer! Take a look at the features and FAQs to find out more.
If you are serious about giving the best mobile representation of your WordPress site, for a fraction of the cost of custom development, then I highly recommend checking out AppPresser.
